Margarita boasts some of the best winter windsurfing conditions in the world. That's why it's home and training ground to some of the world's top freestylers, including Ricardo Campello and Douglas 'Cheo' Diaz.
There's good reason why Margarita is home and training ground to the likes of Ricardo Campello, Cheo et al. The conditions in El Yaque are simply word class and make this an unbeatable winter destination.
Conditions
The trade winds generally blow all day and every day throughout the winter. It's a clean and consistent wind, which helps you make tremendous progress during your stay. Another factor which really will enhance your sailing is the water, which is
waist-deep for 400m, sandy bottomed and extremely warm. Tnis means that you can conserve your energy and pretty much sail all day (you'll be pleased when it's time for well-earned sundowners!).
Despite Margarita's awesome reputation, the forgiving conditions do make it suitable for all levels, including beginners. Typically the wind starts off more gently in the mornings then builds throughout the day, so you can choose the best time to go out.
Typically it's flat water on the inside, which is ideal for getting to grips with your carve gybes or perfecting other freestyle tricks. Further out the chop builds then gives way to rolling swell and some perfect ramps for getting airborne. For true flat water fanaticsm it's possible to take a shuttle boat over to Coche island for perfect glassy conditions.
