This February saw our first venture on the Itoma in Cape Verde... Colin had such a great time, we are struggling to get him back for a review - in the meantime, here is a report from Kev Dervan... thanks Kev!

Day 1 - Friday
No probs with flights out to Sal, got extra legroom for free!!
Once at Sal the wait was a good opportunity for a bit of team bonding, I hadn’t met any of the group before, so after a load of rounds we were ready to take on the high seas together. Everyone was fuelled with stella and excitement from the beginning, all though that was the most drinking we done until the last night!!
.

Day 2 - Saturday
We left after an early breakfast, and headed off for our first sail, Max was taking us to another island for a bit flatish saling on 5.6m nice spot, landscape looked lunar and added to the drama.
After a good session, and having got used to the kit, launching and landing, we left to cross the channel once more, this time I felt a bit rough, until we reached san pedro, you will see the pictures of a lighthouse, and then a flat bay inside, with off-shore wind and a few brighty coloured houses.
The sailing here was incredible, flat and I mean flat water, sailing a meter from the beach, sailing really broad and fast down a speed strip as used by dunkerbeck and Maynard etc. the wind seemed to be strongest in this bay compared to anywhere else we sailed, as there is a funnelling effect going on, so I managed to sail on a 3.9m with small chop, lovely!!!

Day 3 - Sunday
We stayed and played at san pedro for all of Sunday too and had a great sail, jon got ashore for some great photos and we had loads of video coaching here too, with an evening debrief on the action.
Day 4 - Monday
We left san pedro and headed off looking for some waves to play in this would be the last sign of civilisation for a few days!!
We scored a great session here, also would have been a perfect place as intro to wave sailing and jumping as it was a point break with an easy exit off the shoulder of the wave and long flat sections between waves.
Go left for waves, go right for blasting!!

Day 5 - Tuesday
Moved up the coast a bit this morning, this is when I sprained my ankle when it got stuck in the strap as I was top turning, d‘oh!!, then motored over to another island for the evening where we where hopefully going to catch shark, but we weren’t successful!!

Day 6 - Wednesday
We spent the morning fishing, looking for some big wahoo to feed us all, we spotted some dolphins and caught a seabird who had been chasing our lure all morning!! That afternoon Max took us to an amazing spot for some more wavesailing, although when we got there the swell and wind had dropped off a bit.
Jon went in the water for some action shots, while I recorded from the beach, at one stage being the only person on the island!!

Day 7 - Thursday.
Well the last day for sailing, I managed to take it easy and get two sessions in, some of the lads were really pushing themselves now, but no one pulled the trigger for a forward!!
Had a really good session, and then we motored back to san pedro for one last blast, you could easily have spent the whole week here!!
Then we sailed off into the sunset one more time!!
